Today Forward released for Oculus Quest with the PC game and the update resulted in major changes to the computer. Fans are not happy.
As a result of the port, the PC version of Onward has stuck to v1.8, which includes dramatic map changes to accommodate changes made to make the game run on Quest. Earlier, Downpour Interactive had told us that these changes would occur mostly in the way the design is altered, eliminating some features that the Quest couldn’t have right now like additional foliage, and so on. But it seems more dramatic than that. The Onward Discord server is a constant stream of users dissatisfied with updating and reporting various new bugs.
After reading Onward VR Reddit reviews, new PC VR user reviews, Discord impressions, and trying out my version 1.8 of Ontario PC for myself, the differences are pretty clear. Now, all maps are noticeably visually reduced, suffer from problems with similar textures that hinder the Quest version, and are generally of lower quality.
Late last month, Dev’s blog unveiled these changes, but it didn’t seem as dramatic as it looks now.
From the brightest point, the upgrade has resulted in significant improvements in the stability and performance of computers. Users who previously had issues with frame maintenance will probably now enjoy a much smoother game. In addition, KasperVid, a community manager at the discord forward, claims that the new game structure will allow for more robust and feature-rich updates in the future:
“We’ve rewritten and rebuilt large parts of the game over the last few months,” KasperVid tells Discord. “On the one hand we have created tons of headers for future improvements and expansions of the game, on the other hand there is the temporary pain we are experiencing right now. And I understand that it is frustrating. But we have been working on this game for many years and there we’re dedicated. That won’t change, so please give us some credit and we’ll give you a good time soon. “
In addition, Mr. Deathpwn, a Reddit community manager, also explains: “Me and the attendees have been recording all of your feedback and will do our best to ensure that these issues are resolved securely. I will share all the comments with the team. We do a situation of 2 steps forward and 1 step back. “
We have contacted Downpour Interactive directly for further comments and will update this post once we hear it. Let us know what you think of the 1.8 to PC update on your PC comments below!
