Carrie Underwood performs songs from the country’s iconic women at the ACM 2020 Awards



The Academy of Country Music Awards consist of the recognition of contributions to the genre.

To do so, Carrie Underwood, nominated for cheerleader of the year, took to the stage to perform a combination of songs from some of the most iconic women in country music.

The 37-year-old musician covered “Why’d You Come In Here Lookin ‘Like That” by Dolly Parton, “Crazy” by Patsy Cline, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” by Reba McEntire, “You Ain’t “by Loretta Lynn Woman Enough,” I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool “by Barbara Mandrell and” A Broken Wing “by Martina McBride

“Patsy and Loretta, Martina and Barbara, Reba and Dolly. These loud voices mean a lot to me and to all the other female artists who are on their shoulders,” Underwood said. “They are some of my heroes, and I am very honored to be by their side as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. It is a pleasure to honor these legendary ladies as we celebrate Opry’s 95th birthday.”

The “American Idol” alum performed at the Grand Ole Opry House, one of three venues hosting this year’s virtual event. Other performances take place at the Bluebird Cafe and Ryman Auditorium.

For her tribute, Underwood dressed in a red calf-length dress with a floral design.

Fans hailed the online performance.

“Ummm @carrieunderwood you are targets,” singer Carly Pearce said online. “This last note, all the full tribute … thank you for always being so true to country music and the amazing @opry.”

Kelsea Ballerini suggested that Underwood was, in fact, the host of the year after the performance.

“Carrie Underwood has just demonstrated why she’s the artist of the decade,” one fan wrote. “The country music industry is lucky to have you @carrieunderwood That performance was spectacular, you left the world breathless.”
