A Detroit man was shot Thursday night after swallowing a sword in the middle of the street and after stabbing a police officer.
Detroit police chief James Craig said the incident occurred Thursday at 7:15 p.m. on Grand River and Meyers Rd in northwest Detroit.
“The suspect was in the middle of the street armed with a sword,” Craig said Thursday night, The Detroit News reported. “When the officers got there, they told him to drop it. At some point, the suspect draws a second sword; I think he had three, plus a dagger.

“He throws the dagger and hits an officer under his eyes,” Craig said. “The officer deployed his Taser, but it appears that the suspect was wearing tactical equipment and the Taser has no effect.
“The officer’s partner then fired a round, hitting the suspect,” Craig added.
The suspect continued to chase officers and jumped into the driver̵7;s side of one of the patrol cars.
“A good Samaritan watching what was happening … took his personal vehicle and used it to block the suspect,” Craig told reporters.
The chief said he was unclear what happened to the exacltia afterwards, but the suspect was taken to hospital and succumbed to his injuries.
The officer who had been hit by the dagger is being treated at a local hospital for a laceration below his right eye.
The case is still under investigation. The shooting today marked the third police-related mortality this month in Detroit and the fourth police department shooting.

In an incident last week, a man who took the sale of drugs with a partially concealed weapon was approached by an officer, which led to the pursuit of one foot. The suspect then pulled the gun to the officer. The suspect was shot and injured by the officer, according to The Detroit News.
Another police-related shooting occurred on July 19 after a high-speed chase that caused the car to hit a tree. The suspects inside the vehicle ran out and an individual pulled out a gun. Police shot and killed the suspect.

A video released on July 10 by 20-year-old Hakim Littleton showed the man shooting a police officer a few feet from his head. Craig said police shot and killed him and killed him.
